Call for Manuscripts, Teaching Tips, and Teaching Cases
Call for Papers
The Journal of Information Systems Education (JISE) is seeking original articles on current topics of special interest to IS Educators and Trainers. Research or application oriented articles that describe curriculum, pedagogy, professional development or educational facilities issues will be considered for publication in the journal. Possible topics include: course projects/cases, lecture materials, curriculum design and/or implementation, workshops, faculty/student internal/external programs, hardware/software selection, industry relations, etc. All manuscripts, teaching tips, and teaching cases will be refereed by a rigorous evaluation process involving at least two blind reviews by qualified academic, industrial, or governmental computing professionals. Submissions will be judged not only on the suitability of the content, but also on the readability and clarity of the prose. All papers are peer reviewed.
The Journal of Information Systems Education solicits only original
contributions that have not been previously published or submitted elsewhere
for review/publication. Papers awaiting presentation or already presented
at conferences must be revised (ideally, taking advantage of feedback
received at the conference) and have a slightly modified title to receive
consideration. In an effort to reduce the reviewing cycle time, JISE
only accepts electronic submissions of manuscripts. To submit electronically,
please include a Word file of your submission as an e-mail attachment
addressed to editor@jise.org. In the body of your e-mail message include
the author(s) name(s), contact information for the corresponding author,
and the title of your submission. Your submission will be
acknowledged promptly via return e-mail. All contributions must be submitted
in English and will be
printed without charge. See the Initial Submission Instructions for the format and requirements of your initial submission to JISE.
All manuscripts selected for publication must maintain a high standard
of content, style and value to the readership. An important criterion
for acceptance of a manuscript for publication is the relevance of the
work to the educational/training environment and its potential usefulness
for advancing the quality of IS education or training.
Call for Teaching Tips
The Journal of Information Systems Education is soliciting teaching tips
for publication as"Teaching Tips." Contributors will be acknowledged
by having an edited version of their tips with their name and affiliation
published in the Journal. Tips should be from one to five pages long and
should address the contributor's experience using the tip (both what works
and what didn't work). Teaching Tips regularly appear at the beginning
of each JISE issue.
Call for Teaching Cases
JISE is also seeking original teaching cases on current topics of special interest to IS educators and trainers. Teaching cases that are suitable for use in the classroom will be considered for publication in the journal. Teaching Cases will be judged not only on the usability of the case in a class setting, but also on the readability and clarity of the teaching case and on the teaching notes that compliment the case.
Teaching Case submissions should contain two major sections: Teaching Case and Teaching Notes. The submission should start with the Teaching Case. The Teaching Case should generally include: Case Title; Abstract; Case Summary (one or two short paragraphs in length and it summarizes the content of the case); Case Text (the case itself); and References (if any). The Teaching Case should be suitable for use by students in a classroom environment.
A Teaching Case submission should include Teaching Notes. After the Teaching Case, the author should skip to the top of the next page and include the Teaching Notes. If the Teaching Case is accepted for publication, the Teaching Notes will be submitted as a separate file, as the actual Teaching Notes will not be published in JISE. To obtain access to the Teaching Notes, send an e-mail to JISE from your college or university e-mail account. Please note that access to the Teaching Notes will not be sent to Hotmail, Yahoo, or other non-college or university e-mail addresses. You must be an instructor to access the Teaching Notes (students are not authorized to access the Teaching Notes). Your request should contain a college or university URL that will verify your instructor status. This will prevent students from going to the library and getting “the answers” as proposed by the authors.
Electronic submissions or questions should be sent to editor@jise.org.
