The Guest Editors of the Journal of Information Systems Education (JISE) invite submissions for a special issue on Global Information Security and Assurance in IS Education to appear in the Fall 2013 issue (Vol. 24, No. 3). JISE is the premier journal on information systems (IS) education world-wide.
There is a growing need for global information security and assurance. This is due to the rise of computer crime and terrorism on a global scale. Issues include privacy, risk assessment, security policies, data protection, denial-of-service attacks, phishing, and malware. IS curriculum must address these new challenges of protecting data and systems. It is imperative that Information Systems students gain critical knowledge of attacks and countermeasures, along with global security issues, as a major learning outcome of their college education.
For this special issue of JISE on Global Information Security and Assurance in IS Education, we invite the submission of high-quality, innovative, insightful articles. Topics include but are not limited to:
- Integrating information security and assurance issues into the IS education curriculum.
- Preparing IS graduates as security and assurance professionals.
- Theories of information security and assurance within IS education.
- Approaches and methods for teaching information security and assurance within IS education at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
- Ethical and social responsibility in teaching and researching in security and assurance IS education.
- Globalisation security issues within IS education.
- Impacts and consequences of information security and assurance issues impacting IS education in countries around the world
- Privacy issues within IS education.
- Security issues with the use of social networking.
- Security issues with teaching security courses.
- Standards of acceptable behaviour and conduct in IS security education.
- Careers in information security and assurance.
- IS curriculum consisting of Federal government standards
- Prerequisites for a security and assurance curriculum
- Industry and government information security needs.

A new feature for this special issue on information security will be a section titled “Advisory from Security Professionals.” This is an opportunity for professionals from the corporate, government, and military organizations to provide input as to what is going on in their working environments and what is needed from academia. Submissions will also be doubled blind reviewed. Abstracts are requested for preliminary feedback.
